“I’m sitting on a mound of black rubble and old lava, and sketch the desert and the black hills in the distance. Heat is reflecting off the land. The saguaro cacti in front of me add depth and scale, and as the sketch progresses, and the heat increases, I start to feel a little claustrophobic in this wide and open space. Long live the paradox. I speed up the finishing touches in this drawing and really wanted to get out quick smart”

Ride into the Mirror//
On Trekky through North America
[Stage Two]

Sketches & Stories

Ride into the Mirror is a visual journey, written in two parts, of a solo bike ride of 16.000 kilometres through Asia and North America in 2012.

Part two covers the North American leg of the trip, part one the Asian stages.

This long journey had a high standard as the sketches and stories in this book will show, but it was still plagued by breakdowns and adjustments of the itinerary.

This long road ride through 16 American states and Québec, Canada, started in Boston and New England, and after visiting Québec, Geert continued his journey on ‘Trekky’, riding from coast to coast from Virginia to California. The sketches and tales of the people he met, the wide and open landscapes, the stunning national parks, and the descriptions of climbing up to high passes in Colorado and Utah, are journaled in writing and drawings.
