He stayed a few nights in a backpacker resort at Don Det on the Mekong, then continued his way. Marvelling at bombing craters where the locals had converted these to good use. He saw pools for the kids, even an outdoor theatre with wooden benches around the rounded sides of the massive craters. This area had been heavily bombed by the Americans during the Vietnam war.
